Considering Back Pain Surgery…
According to a new study, intensive rehabilitation can be a better option for chronic back pain sufferers than undergoing back surgery. In the study, 349 back pain sufferers were examined who underwent either spinal fusion surgery or intensive rehabilitation involving exercises and cognitive behavioral therapy. Their findings – there was very little difference between the back pain outcome of the two treatments. Thus, due to the many complications associated with surgery, it should only be used as a last resort after all other conservative noninvasive treatments have been exhausted, including chiropractic care.

The Back Pains Of Pregnancy
Most women who are or have been pregnant already know that low back pain is one of the most common complications of pregnancy. European researchers recently found 7 out of 10 women experience low back pain during their pregnancy. Appropriate chiropractic care during pregnancy cannot only alleviate low back pain, but is also extremely safe. If you or someone you know is pregnant and is experiencing back or other spinal problems, please consider safe, effective chiropractic care.

Low-Glycemic Dieting Better Than Low-Fat Dieting?
According to Boston researchers, low-glycemic dieting appears to be healthier and more effective than low-fat dieting. They found low-glycemic dieters not only lost the same amount of weight as low-fat dieters, low-glycemic dieters had less fatty substances in the blood. Also, their body’s ability to dissolve blood clots in the blood stream was enhanced. Every food has a glycemic index value that reflects how quickly it is digested into the blood stream. Foods with lower glycemic indexes take longer to digest, enter the blood stream more slowly and provide a greater sense of fullness after consumption. Foods with a lower glycemic index include nonstarchy vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes and yogurt.

Farm Raised Salmon – Just Say No
There has been much press lately as to the many harmful chemicals contained within farm-raised salmon. Things aren’t getting better for salmon farmers as the researchers of a newly published study are now recommending people not only limit their consumption of farm raised salmon, but possibly avoid eating it altogether. Because of the dioxin content of fish feed and the large amount they are fed in such a short period, farmed salmon contain extremely high levels of the toxic chemicals dioxin, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), toxaphene and dieldrin. According researchers, more than half of all salmon sold worldwide is farm raised. Researchers also warn that if salmon is not specifically labeled as “wild,” it has likely been farmed raised.
