Europeans Utilize Alternative Therapy In Cancer Treatments
According to a recent survey, more than one third of European cancer patients utilize alternative medicine. The survey mentioned 58 complementary and alternative therapies including nutritional supplementation, herbs, homeopathy and medicinal teas. These therapies were utilized to assist their bodies in fighting the cancer as well as improving their emotional and physical well being. According to researchers, the majority of patients using these therapies were satisfied which only 3 percent found these treatments useless.

Researchers Urged To Post Research Online
The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently urged scientists to allow for the immediate posting of their studies online. The NIH favors the dissemination of important research, especially in an easily accessible format available for the public to view. According to the NIH, since it spends close to $20 billion annually to fund over 200,000 researchers around the world, their taxpayers should have a right to see the research they have paid for. This should come as a relief for the thousands of individuals frustrated with the lack of free health information online.

Calcium Reduces Colorectal Cancer
New research indicates calcium can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer in women, and likely men too. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the US with approximately 150,000 annually. Researchers tracked 45,000 cancer-free women for a period of 8.5 years while collecting valuable health information. Their findings showed those taking a minimum of 800 milligrams of calcium daily lowered their risk by 26 percent compared with those taking less than 530 milligrams daily. Those supplementing with more than 800 milligrams daily while also consuming greater than 412 milligrams of calcium through their diet lowered their risk by 46 percent.

IBM Develops Public Health Software
IBM has recently developed software enabling U.S. health agencies and private hospitals to more easily exchange life saving medical information. The new software will help public and private health organizations to access electronic networks alerting them to unusual medical patterns. This would assist in identifying the origin and spread of health related problems as well as identifying effective solutions. The government of Canada has also purchased the software for evaluation.
