Shop, Not Drop
Our friends at the American Chiropractic Association have some tips to help keep us healthy during the stresses and stains of our holiday shopping.
• Stay hydrated! Drink eight to ten 8-ounce glasses of water a day. (Coffee, tea, soft drinks and alcohol are dehydrators. Don't substitute them for water.)
• Be sure to stretch before and after a long day of shopping. When you are stressed-out, your muscles are less flexible than usual.
• Wear shoes with plenty of cushioning in the soles to absorb the impact of walking on those hard shopping mall floors.
• Make sure your clothing is as comfortable as possible. It's a good idea to wear layers, because you may be going from a cold environment (outdoors) to a warm environment (indoors).
• Leave your purse at home. Wear a light fanny pack, or if necessary, a light backpack instead. Pack only those items that are absolutely essential (driver's license, credit card, etc.).
Most importantly, if you begin to notice any pain or discomfort, contact our office immediately. We can get you fixed up and on your way asap!

Don’t Delay On Receiving Care
According to the results of a 3-year follow-up study, having back problems evaluated early on is optimal. Moreover, staying as active as possible, when safe to do so, is also important. Those who wait for pain to simply disappear or think excessive rest will be beneficial are often doing more harm than good. If you do experience pain or discomfort, don’t delay on receiving care. Patients who get their health problems evaluated early on experience the fastest recovery times with the least amount of costs.

NIH Awards $2.3 Million Grant for Chiropractic Research
The National Institutes for Health (NIH) recently awarded $2.3 million dollars to assist one of the leading chiropractic colleges in developing new partnerships between complementary and alternative medicine institutions and major research universities. The objective is to advance research on widely used complementary and alternative medicine practices. According to chiropractic researcher Dr. William Meeker, “The multidisciplinary nature of the projects will lead to a synergy that will cause even more definitive studies that will improve health care and benefit many more patients.”
