New Study Supports Chiropractic
A new study shows spinal manipulation (the most common chiropractic therapy) is just as effective as traditional medical care for treating back pain. This study evaluated the results of more than 2 dozen studies performed on those suffering from sudden and longstanding back pain. This is welcome news to those patients looking for safe, drug-free alternatives to medical treatment. It should be noted that the study failed to mention a very important Canadian government study and US federal government guidelines stating chiropractic care to be more effective, safer and less costly than medical care for low back pain.

Don’t Ignore Back Pain
Researchers investigated questionnaires completed by close to 1,000 people who were followed over 5 years to determine the extent of low back pain in the general population. They found those with back pain at the beginning of the study were 4 times more likely to have pain one year into the study. Moreover, they were 2 times more likely to be affected at the end of the study. The researchers concluded, “Low back pain should not be considered transient and therefore neglected, since the condition rarely seems to be self-limiting but merely presents with periodic attacks and temporary remissions.” If you or another you know is suffering from back pain, contact our office today… we can help!

More to Back Pain Than Meets The Eye
Back pain is a very common condition within the general population and is often accompanied by instability of the structures supporting the back. Sufferers very often experience pain which comes and goes, tending to worsen over time. According to a recent study, these individuals actually have proprioceptive problems in their spine. In other words, the muscles, ligaments and joints of the back whose function it is to stabilize and prevent injury, are unable to properly do their job. In a way, they’re acting as if they were drunk. This is why it’s vital to seek immediate and proper care for back problems. Once present, back conditions rarely go away never to be seen again. They require highly professional care, such as that provided by your licensed doctor of chiropractic.

Chiropractic Success With Bell’s Palsy
A recent case study documented chiropractic’s effectiveness in a woman suffering from Bell’s Palsy; a unilateral facial muscle paralysis resulting from injury to the facial nerve. According to the case study, the woman was medically diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. Upon chiropractic examination, the woman was also found to have spinal subluxations (a spinal malfunction diagnosed by chiropractors, often involving the nervous system). Upon receiving chiropractic care, the woman’s symptoms responded favorably. She also made continued improvements during her 6 months of chiropractic care. Researchers concluded, “there are indications that patients suffering from Bell’s Palsy may benefit from a holistic chiropractic approach…”
