Colorado Doctors of Chiropractic Help Firefighters
In an overwhelming demonstration of goodwill, over 100 Colorado doctors of chiropractic have volunteered their time, talent, and equipment to provide chiropractic care to firefighters and the support staff working on the Colorado wildfires. Chiropractic care is available virtually all day to support staff, but especially during the evening hours after the firefighters return from over 12 hours of grueling work on the fire lines.
Three doctors of chiropractic organized the state-wide chiropractic volunteer effort and should be commended: Dr. David Boyd, Dr. John Warner and Dr. Thomas Garcia.

Chiropractic: What Should You Expect
A recent study was conducted to investigate the expectations of patients and chiropractors when chiropractic care was initiated. Researchers found chiropractors and patients expected the chiropractor to find the problem and explain it to their patients and they also expected patients to fell better and become free of symptoms. However, patients had lower expectations of the chiropractic treatment than the chiropractors but higher expectations of being given advice and exercises than the chiropractors did. There was also a tendency for the patients to expect to get better faster than the chiropractors expected them to. Researchers felt that some of the differences in expectations could potentially influence the treatment and outcome of the care negatively. They stressed the importance of communication between the chiropractor and the patients.

Ground Zero Doctors Honored
Bronx, N.Y.-area chiropractors Dr. Phil Nadler and Dr. Richard Imundo have been awarded distinguished lifetime memberships in the New York Chiropractic Council (NYCC) for their tireless efforts at "Ground Zero" in New York City.
Both volunteered two days a week for more than six months to adjust rescue workers at World Trade Center health and rest stations. They joined about 1,500 other chiropractors who came from all over the country to treat thousands of relief workers.

Walking Your Way to Health
While some fitness enthusiasts relentlessly seek out the latest, trendiest exercise crazes, many others are returning to good, old-fashioned walking to help them feel great and get into shape. Whether enjoying the wonder of nature or the company of a friend, walking can be a healthy, invigorating experience. Walking accomplishes all of the following and more:
• Improves cardiovascular endurance
• Tones muscles of the lower body
• Burns calories: about 80 if walking two miles per hour, and about 107 if walking four and a half miles per hour
• Reduces risk of heart disease
Walking just 12 minutes every other day can offer important health benefits. Walking 20 minutes every other day is even better. But in order to increase your longevity, try to eventually work up to 30 minutes, five days per week. Keep in mind that if you have not previously been physically active, you should consult your doctor of chiropractic before beginning an exercise program. Also, should you experience pain or injury in a particular area, such as a knee or a hip, the root of the problem may lie somewhere else and can be successfully diagnosed and treated by a chiropractor.
