Chiropractic Scores a Touchdown in the NFL
The National Football League (NFL) utilizes chiropractic for its players. Certified athletic trainers see a role for the sport chiropractor in the NFL, primarily as a spinal specialist treating low back and other musculoskeletal injuries. A majority of NFL trainers have developed cooperative relationships with chiropractors, with 77% having referred a player to a chiropractor. Thirty-one percent of NFL teams have a chiropractor officially on staff, and an additional 12% of teams refer players to chiropractors but do not directly retain these chiropractors.

"Cyberchondriacs" prowl the Web
A recent national survey finds that 110 million adults sometimes go online to look for health care information. Harris Interactive, which conducted the study, found on average, these "cyberchrondriacs" search the Web for this type of information three times a month. Four years ago, about 54 million people surfed the Web for health-related information and that number has grown to 97 million last year. A slender majority (53 percent) of those who look for health care information do so using a portal or search engine which allows them to search for the health information they want across many different websites.

Manual Therapy Best for Neck Pain
New study findings suggest that for some neck pain, manual therapy may be more effective than exercise, painkillers, and other standard treatments.
Researchers reported that this "hands-on" technique worked better than exercise therapy or routine care from a medical doctor, for patients with neck pain due to muscle or joint strain. The researchers used specific mobilization techniques involving range-of-motion and slowly applied pressure. At the end of the study, about 68% of manual-therapy patients said they were "completely recovered" or "much improved," compared with 51% of those on exercise therapy and 36% of patients continuing their usual care.

Olympic Gold Medalist Praises Chiropractic
Olympic speedskating gold and silver medalist Derek Parra talks about the important role chiropractic care played in his medal-winning performances in a video news release from the American Chiropractic Association. The video news release was sent via satellite to more than 800 media outlets across the United States. The video discusses how chiropractors have been a part of the Olympic Medal Staff since 1980 and have helped many world-class athletes reach their peak.
Also featured in the video is ACA Connecticut delegate Dr. Keith Overland, chiropractic consultant to the U.S. Speedskating Team, who explains that weekend warriors are prone to the same types of repetitive and overuse injuries as Olympic athletes.
