May is Correct Posture Month
Does your child carry a heavy backpack over one shoulder? Do your children spend hours hunched over a computer keyboard? Correct Posture Month, sponsored by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), encourages you to talk to your local doctor of chiropractic about ways to alleviate poor posture. A doctor of chiropractic can tell you if your child's slouching is a bad habit or a warning signal, or if a heavy backpack is going to cause future spinal problems.

Your Chiropractor Listens – The Internet Works!
A recent poll by Cyberdialogue (2000) found that 70% of all patientswould like their physician to recommend a health care web site for their condition, but that only 4% of patients receive such a recommendation. In response to such a need, we have chosen to provide our patients with reliable health care information via this website. Our web site provides quality, reliable content as an adjunct to regular chiropractic care. The information is unbiased, well-written, and allows you to be much more involved with your own care. If you enjoy our web site or have suggestions, please let us know!

Bone-setting Effective in Treating Back Pain
A recent study looked at bone-setting, the predecessor of modern chiropractic therapies, compared to a program consisting of light exercise therapy or physiotherapy for patients with long-term back pain. One hundred fourteen patients experiencing back pain for 7 weeks or more were randomly assigned to the therapies, which were offered in up to 10 sessions during a 6-week treatment period. The study found that bone-setting seemed more effective than exercise or physiotherapy on back pain and disability, something chiropractors have known for over 100 years!

Don’t Stress Your Chiropractic Visits
A study regarding the effects of chiropractic manipulation (CM) and stress was recently conducted. Salivary cortisol levels, which can be used to determine stress, were measured. Samples collected for five weeks found that CM therapy did not significantly change basal salivary cortisol levels. It was determined that that neither the anticipation of CM nor the spinal manipulative procedure itself induces a state of stress or anxiety. In fact, we find the majority of patients look forward to their chiropractic treatments.
